I recently thought I’d written my last article about the game world of MathQuest, but they surprised me with a brand-new game mode! I couldn’t resist trying it out and, of course, sharing my thoughts. Here’s my review of the mode and a few winning strategies I’ve picked up along the way.
The new game mode is called “Treasure Trails” and it reminds me a bit of their classic “Mystery Maze” mode. Here, you’re an adventurer tasked with navigating through a massive forest to find hidden treasure chests scattered around. There’s a catch: each chest is locked, and to open them, you need keys found only by solving math riddles and puzzles as you go. The goal is to be the first to unlock five treasure chests to claim the ultimate treasure!
Here are some strategies to help you win. First and foremost, tackle the easier math riddles early on to build your inventory of keys. The more you stock up, the less you have to hunt for keys later when the pressure is on. Trust me, these add up, and you’ll need them later on when time is tight!
Second tip: plan your route. Instead of running aimlessly around the map, take a moment to look at the areas with the highest density of treasure chests and start there. Most players waste time wandering, so having a plan will give you a clear advantage. The more efficient your path, the more treasure you’ll get to first.
My third tip is to team up if you can. This mode allows for alliances, which means you can share clues with other players to find those hidden chests quicker. Just remember that it’s every adventurer for themselves in the end, so break away once you’re close to five chests.
Lastly, avoid using only your keyboard’s trackpad. Using a mouse speeds up clue-solving and lets you zoom around the map faster. The seconds you save really do matter here!
Now, for my review. Here’s what another player, Jamie Thompson, a 7th grader at RVM Middle School, had to say: “I love how it makes you feel like a real treasure hunter, but I wish there was a way to hide your treasure count from other players so they don’t gang up on you.”
I agree; the treasure-hunting vibe is super fun and adds a new layer of excitement to the game. “Mystery Maze” might still be my favorite mode, but “Treasure Trails” is a fresh and exciting addition, especially with friends. I’d rate it a solid 4/5 stars – it’s almost there, just a little extra thrill factor and it would be perfect! I definitely recommend giving it a try for some treasure-hunting fun!
